Description of activity

Barnfield Riding for the Disabled Association runs riding activities for children and adults with any difficulty or disability.

The Volunteers at Barnfield RDA give local children and adults who have mental or physical disabilities the chance to ride horses. This doesn’t just make their life more enjoyable – horse riding is medically recognised for its therapeutic benefits such as strengthening muscles, improving co-ordination, building confidence physically and through speech, relieving stress and giving general psychological encouragement.

Each rider needs up to three helpers – one to lead the horse and two side walkers to ensure safety. The helpers are extraordinary local volunteers who give up their time, all united in their desire to help those less fortunate than themselves

We are a totally standalone charity and need to raise around £30,000 a year in order to continue this facility. We have around 50 clients each week and our only regret is that the monetary constrictions mean there are not more.
