Doris Venner pre-school recognised for their inclusive practice at the Nursery World Awards

Congratulations to Kingston based pre-school, Doris Venner, who received the Inclusive Practice award at this years Nursery World Awards - an annual ceremony that recognises the very best among those that work across the early years education sector.

The Inclusive Practice award category was open to settings, services or projects that promote equality of opportunity and the best outcomes for all children, families and staff regardless of ethnic origin, special needs, background or disadvantage. Five other settings were nominated in this category. Doris Venner were recognised for the play-based intervention work they carry out in their Sunshine Class, which supports children with autism, ADHD, social communication difficulties and speech and language delay.

Maria Churchill, Doris Venner Manager and Designated Safeguarding Lead said:

“We were overwhelmed to hear our names called as the winners, it was totally unexpected, we were just so proud to be finalists. We felt like winners at the NTA'S!

Our SENCO, Charlotte, has worked so hard to ensure our children have the best possible start whatever their ability. Sunshine Class has been such a positive addition to our preschool that all children benefit from, even those without a need. The awards were such a positive experience, where we had the chance to meet a range of people and different settings. We came away feeling like our industry was truly valued.”

Well done and congratulations to everyone involved!
