This World Suicide Prevention Day, we want to show everyone that talking about difficult feelings, including suicidal thoughts, doesn’t have to be scary.
The theme for this year's World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’ with an associated call to action of ‘Start the Conversation’.
We're all at different stages in our understanding and awareness of suicide prevention, but no matter where we stand, we can learn to save a life by taking training:
Training with Zero Suicide Alliance:
Through Zero Suicide Alliance's free, 20-minute suicide awareness training, you will gain skills and confidence to help someone who may be considering suicide. Take the full training.
Zero Suicide Alliance also offers suicide awareness training to support veterans, university students, people with autism and taxi drivers. All the courses are on their website.
Support services in Kingston and Richmond:
Portus - Support for children and young people
Portus is a new resource to support children and young people in Kingston and Richmond who are harming themselves to help them get the support they need. Are you a young person looking for help? With the right support, you can find your way forward.
Portus also provides advice and support for parents, schools, colleges, youth services, GPs and Children's Social Care on how best to support young people. If you are caring for or working with a young person that needs support.
